Amanda Corrigan from Fermoy Dental Centre won the 2015 Kin Hygienist of the Year award last year – and delivered a healthy baby girl the same weekend.

Amanda was announced as the winner at the Irish Dental Hygienists Association’s 2015 Annual Scientific Conference last November. The new mum thanked the judges and sponsors Pamex via a pre-recorded video.

‘Winning the Kin Dental Hygienist of the Year award was a great honour,’ she said. ‘It’s a seal of approval from my patients. I always strive to do my best and the fact that they took time out of their own busy schedules to vote for me hopefully means that they are happy with their care.’

Nominations

Patients from all over Ireland were able to nominate their hygienist for the coveted title. Amanda received €1,000 educational grant, a winner’s badge, certificate and trophy.

The five finalists had to compile a patient information leaflet on a choice of topics.

‘I chose to design a leaflet on orthodontic care,’ Amanda commented. ‘I wanted the leaflet to be simple to understand and easy to read, while covering all aspects from cleaning to diet and care of retainers post-treatment. I also wanted it to be eye-catching on the shelf!’

Amanda said the competition was ‘rewarding’ and looks forward to a successful future career.
